HTC and Telstra joined forces at Mediterranean grill and wine bar Neild Avenue to launch HTC's Velocity 4G. Former Miss Universe Australia winner and Celebrity Apprentice contestant Jesinta Campbell was there to promote the event.
The smartphone is the first to utilise Telstra's 4G network.
Other celebrities in attendance included Sydney Swans AFL player Adam Goodes and Channel V VJ Danny Clayton. Superstar David Hasselhoff was rumoured to be attending but did not make an appearance.
The phone is available from Telstra, JB HiFi and Phone Zone stores from today. Telstra confirmed it has several more smartphones, one tablet and several broadband devices lined up for release this year on the 4G network.
The phone boasts a 4.5 inch touchscreen, 1.5 GHz dual core processor and 8 megapixel camera.
It currently runs on Android Gingerbread with HTC Sense 3.5, but will get an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich in a few months time.
Telstra's 4G network gives users typical download speeds of between 2 Mbps and 40Mbps, and typical upload speeds of between 1Mbps and 10Mbps.
The Velocity 4G has a 1080p HD camcorder with stereo sound recording.
It will retail for business customers on the $0 upfront $90 Business Mobile Advantage Member Plan, and for consumer customers on the $79 Freedom Connect Plan.
The restaurant is the latest venture from Robert Marchetti and Maurice Terzini, of Icebergs and North Bondi Italian fame.
It closed its doors to the public for its first private event.
