Mobility Q&A: Intergen
Andrew Kosmadakis

What mobile device management or mobile security solutions do you deploy?

We align our mobile management solutions around the Microsoft stack. We think that there are benefits in being able to align our approach to MDM with our approaches to managing the rest of the corporate environment We use the Microsoft Unified Device Management solution, utilising System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager and Windows Intune.

When did your company first get involved in this area?

Since around 2011, Intergen has been involved in deploying cloud-based management solutions using Windows Intune, working with clients to merge the management of their desktops with their mobile device fleet into the solution.

What are your credentials?

A number of our team members have been working in the mobility space for quite some years. We hold a Microsoft Gold competency in Microsoft Systems Management and Silver in Devices and Deployment.

Have you heard about any cool MDM or mobile security technology lately?

The biggest trend – driven by demand from customers – that we are seeing is the need to manage both enterprise and individually owned devices. There are a number of vendors who are doing a good job in this regard by effectively delivering a strong split between the data and apps for each context. This isolates work from non-work very well, but we’re not sure whether this approach will deliver an experience that is acceptable to end users.

Can you tell us about a recent client project?

A customer needed to manage the application lifecycle of Windows, Windows Phone and iOS applications, and also wanted to provide users with the simplest method of enrolling and accessing the data, using their existing email address. They also wanted to make sure that users had access to the wi-fi networks without having to distribute SSID and password information.

What is driving customers towards MDM or mobile security?

Some customers are using MDM as a platform to enable productivity to their user base by serving them a range of applications or access to corporate resources without having to touch each device to install certificates, VPN and email profiles. Other customers are using MDM to provide security, compliance and data protection across their mobile fleet.

Mobility is…?

Not just about the smartphone in your pocket or hand. It’s about the user, the devices they choose to use, the applications and how they are provided the workplace resources and data to consume, when they want, as they want.
