Orange Business Services monitors health with Sorin Group

This service is based on Sorin's implanted CRM devices' ability to send data to a non-invasive monitoring system located at the patient's home and on Orange Business Services' capabilities to manage the transmission of the data to the physician.

Tim Cavill, managing director A/NZ at Orange Business Services, told CRN the service will help in the follow-up care of patients by transmitting data electronically from patients' implanted cardiac devices to their physicians, without the patients leaving their homes.

Using the data, physicians can detect arrhythmia or cardiac disease progression and provide timely therapy, which may reduce the need for hospitalisation.

Currently Sorin plans to release the service in Italy, France and the US.

Although medical device company plans to bring it out to this region, there's is no firm timing, said Cavill.

"For phase one of the project, Sorin plans to launch the solutions in Europe and the US," he said. 

"Sorin chose Orange Business Services to support the project from a technical perspective due to our global reach capabilities, enabling consistent support in all countries/regions of the world when it's ready to grow and expand into other markets." 

The partership addresses the communications infrastructure and the hosting of data and Orange Business Services is also providing overall program management, software development of a hosted application, systems integration support, managed ITS hosting and security services, and a dedicated help desk.

"This unique combination of cardiac rhythm management excellence, with state-of the art data management ensures the needs of the medical professionals are provided with technical standards."

Orange has already launched several solutions for the remote monitoring of chronic diseases.

For diabetics in Spain, where patients enter daily the blood sugar level as well as other vital parameters and send them directly to their doctors via a PDA.

In France, patients with kidney failure are in touch with their care network through an interactive interface.

A remote monitoring system allows a better follow-up of a disease without the patient having to go to the hospital, said Cavill.
