Fujitsu Australia has been selected as the preferred tenderer for a four-year $150 million contract to supply desktop and helpdesk services to the Northern Territory government.
The company defeated CSC Australia, Hewlett-Packard and Unisys Australia to a tender for the supply of desktop, laptop, server and associated technologies which closed on 16 November last year.
“CSC had provided these services since July 2001 when they were first outsourced from government and their [CSC’s] contract, which is the largest ICT contract in NT, expires on 29 June 2006," Dr Chris Burns, minister for corporate & information services at the NT government said in a statement.
Fujitsu had demonstrated how it proposed to deliver “unprecedented levels of services to regional and remote NTG sites”, he said.
“We anticipate no net loss in the number of jobs required to deliver these services. In fact a slight increase in jobs is expected.”
He said contract negotiations with Fujitsu would now begin. “If these negotiations are successful, we expect the new contract to be completed by the end of March, allowing for an orderly transition to the new four-year contract which commences on 29 June 2006,” he said in a statement.
