DiData: “Virtualisation is nothing special”
Integrator, Dimension Data has taken a different angle on the virtualisation debate and stressed that entering a virtual environment is just the start to dealing with increased data levels.

Ronnie Altit, general manager of Data Centre Solutions at DiData, said: “With virtualisation it is not a question of if, it is a question of when [will you adopt virtualisation]. Most firms have it in some form and it is no longer a question of suggestion.

“We are witnessing a huge data explosion and the real issue is how we are going to manage that. We think virtualisation is the answer to all our woes, but virtualisation is nothing special. All we are doing is moving our problem. The question is how do we deal with that continued data growth?”

Altit explained that everything changes when you enter a virtual environment, but the implementation is just the beginning. You also need to look at what happens next in the data centre.

“The data is important and you have to manage all of that and that is the aspect which the customer is struggling to deal with,” he said.

Altit cited four familiar data centre trend for 2008, with enterprise IT activity centering around virtualisation, storage management, Green data centres and data management.
