Accucom has completed the installation of more than 300 wireless access points for Sydney’s Barker College, after winning a hard-fought request-for-proposal process.
The contract saw the installation of an Aruba 802.11ac wave 2 wireless LAN solution across the entire campus during the two-week school holidays in September.
James Stewart, Barker College director of ICT and e-learning, said the school engaged SpectroTech to design an RFP for a new wireless solution to increase the effectiveness of mobile technology for learning.
“The RFP process was both highly rigorous and, in order to have our wireless issues sorted by start of Term 4, it also had a very short timeframe. In addition to this, Barker is a large school in terms of student numbers (more than 2000), campus size and number of campuses, so this added to the complexity and scope of work,” he said.
Stewart said after Aruba and Accucom were awarded the contract, the wireless upgrade was completed in two weeks with minimal interruptions to staff and students onsite during the holidays.
The pressure to deliver was on, with Accucom technical director Sam Sarkis saying the contract had respondents from every major wireless LAN vendor and reseller in Australia.
“With an extremely short deployment time of two weeks, Accucom has delivered and implemented the solution on time, on budget and with zero calls to the IT helpdesk on the first day back at school,” he said.
“Initial reports are all positive, with smiling staff and students loving their new wireless LAN experience, with one class even spontaneously breaking out into a round of applause when an Accucom engineer stopped by their classroom to perform the post-deployment RF survey. You can’t get much better feedback than that!”
