Telstra’s leading ICT services are built on our reliable, intelligent networks. Our comprehensive network solutions suit SMEs to enterprises and government. Telstra’s multi-protocol label switch (MPLS) core is evolving to deliver more capabilities for our customers.

When did your company first get involved in networking?

Telstra is Australia’s leading ICT services company that has provided reliable network services since 1854, with the first telegraph line in Australia being built between Melbourne and Williamstown. Today, we have a full range of communications services and have expanded our international presence to 15 countries.

What networking certifications and/or credentials does your company have? 

We have 5,400 technology and technical specialists, 1,900 network planners and constructors, and 224 professionals holding 787 Cisco certifications, and 3,100 field technicians. Various standards include ISO 27001, ITIL, ASIO T4 security accreditation, PSM, ACSI 33.

Who are your main distributors for networking technologies? 

Telstra’s Enterprise Partner Program identifies the most capable partners to service Global Enterprise and Services Australia customers. Its members are preferred partners who meet strict selection criteria. Our consulting-led approach means we work as a trusted partner to help our customers achieve goals.

What cool or interesting recent networking technology is occupying your thoughts?

Some recent and exciting innovations include Telstra’s Application Assured Networking (AAN) service to give customers a deep-dive view and control of their network traffic to optimise application performance and improve productivity. Telstra’s wide-area network optimisation service cuts latency, packet loss and congestion to help applications respond faster and improve end user experience in dispersed locations. 

Can you tell us about a recent networking deployment you have done? 

Telstra provides network solutions to more than 400 of the top 500 companies in Australia. Organisations that have taken up AAN gained considerable insights into the performance of their company applications, bridging the gap between IT and the business units. This helps them achieve efficiencies.

What is driving customers’ networking projects? 

Drivers include: need to share information and applications across business locations; pressure to provide collaborative environments while mitigating security threats; managing one network with support for many application requirements (eg, cloud); workplace flexibility; providing alternate access types to suit location; staff workloads; and device preferences.
