Cemex, also a partner of Informatica, used the vendor’s data migration products on a three year project that involved 27 countries moving to a single SAP environment.
“They spent a bit of time refining their methodology and delivery and when they got it right they rolled out the solution. Conformity and consistency was there,” he stated.
Data migration became a viable market following the data fragmentation movement in the 80s and 90s that witnessed departments within a larger organisation set up their own IT infrastructure. A counter movement focused on integration and consolidation has arisen in the last few years, indicating the potential for continued growth in this sector.
“Growth is predominately driven by the need for enterprise data integration and currently we’re experiencing a 21 percent growth rate, which is a good position to be in,” said Newman. “There are various stages of growth ... first there are the early adopters and then the start of the growth phase. We are definitely still in the early stages of the growth phase and anticipate a five to 10 period of accelerated growth.”
